Our Artists

Sherri

Media:  Painting, Paper Mache', Polymer Clay
Born in California, Sherri grew up in Chewelah, WA and attended SFCC and Spokane Art School.  She started doing art "when I was born" and is inspired by everything she sees...people, animals and nature.  She has done sets and props for Spokane Children's Theater and murals for various installations. Her art reflects her interest in animals and her family.  Sherri currently does commissions of pet portraits in various media.  She enjoys the inspiration that comes from being a part of this "awesome group".

Peggy

Media:  Pottery, Hand Knitting
San Diego was home to Peggy until fourth grade, when she moved to Spokane Valley and later graduated from Central Valley High School.  Peggy has been a crafter for years and was encouraged by a friend to try pottery about six years ago.  She has enjoyed hand building pottery ever since. Along with her interests of gardening, Peggy currently owns a country wedding venue called Rainbow Springs Ranch near Eloika Lake.  Having loved art in school and making things herself, she enjoys "being a part of a great bunch of artists and friends
at BCM".
 

Suzi

Media:  Jewelry: Metal Clay, Wire Wrapping, Bead Weaving
Suzi grew up in Ohio, has a BS in Visual Communications and has been interested in art since her teen age years.  She has done cake decorating, basket weaving and bead weaving, and is inspired by the nature around her. Her hobbies include showing dogs in both AKC confirmation and performance events and traveling. Suzi has two daughters with her husband Mike and four amazing grandchildren.

Carmen

As a girl growing up in Hoquiam, WA., Carmen was encouraged by her artist mother and her grandfather.  She collected clay from her back yard and used her front porch studio to create miniatures and scenes.  She is inspired by color, other artists and loves making gifts for her family and friends.  Philosophy of art: "Create from the heart...enjoy the process".

Sandra

Sandra has lived in Elk all her life, attended a Saddle-Making Class at SFCC and makes custom leather saddles and tack for customers all over the United States.  She combined her art experience with leather work in 2000 and specializes in realistic animal images. She shares a small farm with her husband, Don, and critters in the form of horses, chickens, cats and a dog.
She shows her unique artwork in Great Falls and Stanford Montana galleries and enjoys the fellowship of other artists in our co-op.
Philosophy of art: "Do what you like".

Libby

Libby received an art degree from Edinboro State College in Pennsylvania where she grew up. Libby is a retired Chattaroy Elementary teacher and recently purchased her dream cabin on Sacheen Lake.  Having raised four children and now enjoying her 10 grandchildren, she is "mom" to a rescue dog, Bella, who often accompanies her to BCM.  She says, "It is fun to be a part of a wonderful community of artists".

Nancy

Creator of the beautiful quilts and wall hangings in our gallery, Nancy is originally from California and a graduate of Rancho Santiago College.  She has shown at the Fly Away Gallery and been an interior designer.  She also paints in oils and enjoys gardening.  She has six grandchildren and is a horse enthusiast, like several of our other BCM members.  She joined our co-op because she loves all art media.
Philosophy of art:  "Do what you love!"

Denny

Denny has been an officer in the Deer Park Arts Commission, the Tri-County Association of the Arts and has exhibited at the Interstate Fair and several First Friday events.  He teaches guitar at Bear Creek on Saturday's, when he works the store, and has taught both music and photography in several area homeschool programs.  Denny enjoys working with other artists and says the BCM Co-Op members are great to work with.  He appreciates the opportunity to share his photography and music with the public and the community. Philosophy of art:  "Art or artistic expression should enrich the lives of viewers and of the artist."

Kay

Kay is a native of Northern California and besides her varied artistic talents, is a devoted horseback rider.  She also enjoys doing charity and fund raisers for animal rescue and welfare.  Kay started doing art seven years ago and was inspired by a friend painting Christmas cards. She has won several awards and is always trying new things with much success.  Her soap demonstrations encouraged others to take up the "habit"!  She considers BCM members "family" and loves the people and sharing attitudes.
Philosophy of art:  "Let it be".

Holly

Holly is from Vancouver, WA. and attended Central Washington University.  Her mother inspired her interest in antiques and crafts and she has participated in Farm Chicks, Rebel Junk and Pickin' Spokane shows. Having worked for the US Postal Service, Holly now enjoys horses, antiques and collecting vintage Christmas decorations. Holly is a BCM co-op member because she enjoys the company of the other members.

Sue

A native of Pennsylvania, Sue has a BS in Business Management.  She did take classes in Art Education and has been doing art since elementary school.  She gets inspiration from her sister and now, artists that she has met here. Sue is a part of BCM because she values what our Co-op can do for the community she has adopted and loves.

Mary Lee

Mary Lee was raised in Elk, graduated from WSU with a degree in education and completed her career of teaching at Chattaroy Elementary.  She has lots of animal models on her farm and sometimes paints "porch art" on rusty metal roofing that blew off the barn a few years ago. Mary Lee has really enjoyed being a part of Bear Creek Mercantile and is excited about the opportunities that the co-op can bring to the community.

Missy

Media:  Stenciled Wood Products
Missy graduated from Central Valley High School and attended Whitworth University.  She currently works as a health care claims processor and lists home improvement, gardening, traveling and woodworking as her interests. She also has one small dog and two large cats! Missy joined BCM to get to know more about the community that she lives in and to share products that she makes.

Cindi

Dan

Media:  Oils
Born and raised in Spokane, Dan is retired from a career as a recreation therapist. He has been inspired artistically by his graphic artist brother and enjoys a variety of well-known painters like Norman Rockwell, Charlie Russell and Steve Lyman and Joe Kronenberg.  He enjoys being around all of the other artists at the Mercantile and is inspired to see the variety of art displayed here.  His wife, Marilyn, also contributes hand crafted products for our inventory and they both enjoy camping, photography, hiking, snowshoeing, bicycling and movies.
